There are some 40 species of flying squirrel. They can glide up to 300 feet from a tall tree.





These creatures have developed a good sense of balance, a sail-like membrane connecting the wrists and ankles, delicate wrist bones that control this membrane, allowing the squirrel to steer, and a fluffy tail that stabilizes flight.

Besides the flap of skin that enables them to glide, they are small and light weight, allowing them to stay in the air longer because of their diminutive size.
