How do I get rid of flying squirrels in my attic?

I want to kill these little %26amp;%^$#@'s! They keep us up at night, they are ruining our house chewing holes, and Im sure destroying the insulation in the attic. And I read that they are a fire hazard because they can chew wires. I did some research to get rid of them but I want to hear from people who have had this problem and found something that actually works. Please help me get rid of these damn things?!How do I get rid of flying squirrels in my attic?
Consider them rats.

grab some 2x4's and screw some rat traps into them.

(Victor makes a good one)

place a piece of fabric onto the bait tray and smear peanut butter on it.

DON'T SET THE TRAPS UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT

Once you're up in the attic, poke the traps (at the end of the 2x4's) into the darkest recess of your attic.

Wait 'til about 5 am

Peanut butter works like a champ - and it's not like dealing with poison. Attaching the traps to a board will keep the rat from dying in your walls.

If you're too creeped out to deal with the dead rats, most guys can be bribed with good beer. How do I get rid of flying squirrels in my attic?
BEST WAY WOULD BE FOR YOU TO CALL THE ANIMALCONTROL. AND THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL YOU WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT INSULATION WISE TO THE HOUSE , AND THEY CAN CATCH THEM FOR YOU
CONTACT the nearest animal shelter. They generally have solutions for just such a problem. DO NOT kill these little guys! It is against the law. Move them to a wooded area where they will do no more damage and be prolific. They are a necessary part of our environment and they deserve to be able to complete their work without damaging your property. I hope you are able to get rid of them. They were in our attic when we moved here 28 years ago... they are no longer! As a second resort, MOST of these small creatures do not like ';Moth Balls';. Put them everywhere in the attic and the house. They can be hung in pretty stockings around the house too. Have a great holiday!!

Eds
i use rat poison
Just get an expert on that sorta' thing, like those mice terminatiorz n'they'll do it for u! Whatever u pay them would be MUCH less than the cost ud be payin'to fixing ur attic.
put wire mesh around any holes that may be near your rooflien where they are getting in .
You should really get a professional in there to take care of it. Squirrels carry rabies in their saliva and you could potentially get it from just mucking about up there.

Once you get rid of them, you need to address the problem of how they got in there in the first place. They are like little rats and can get into tiny spaces. Fill up those spaces with foam or wire mesh (depending upon if they're coming in through a hole or a hole in a vent).
I do hate to have to think about this [the outcome] and give advice to poison a creature; but, it works. I justify it by the concept of survival of the fittest: I'm not willing to give up my house to pests who have chosen it and then begin destroying it [or bringing in some manner of disease...].

So, here goes:

If you put a small container/dish of anti-freeze in the attic [making sure, of course, that No pet[s] have access to same], the squirrels will drink it and will die.
here is a short term answer get some amonia (house hold cleaner type) mix with equal amount of water and use a water gun to ';shoot'; the mixture to the places that they use to enter your house and then for good measure spray the eves and base of your house with the mixture (btw amonia will act as a fast fertilizer for your flowers so spraying it around the ground will not hurt your plants) this is a temporary fix as when it rains or snows again it will wash away so use it then fix the holes in your house
I don't like the idea of a rotting rodent in the attic. I would try a strobe light that is made for this type of situation. The squirrels or any other rodent cant stand it. Go on-line or you local hardware store and ask for a strobe light designed for this use. The most important thing is to seal up the access points the squirrels have been using once they are gone. I found one on Amazon called the Evictor Strobe Light.
