Does the flying squirrel really fly?

They glide, but don't flap for propulsion. They have skin between their shoulder and sides stretches out when they hold out their arms. As a youth, I used to watch them where I lived in New Hampshire. They were there the first 2 or 3 years when the housing development had just been built into a cleared forest, then they dissapeared. They could glide from tree to tree, and it seems like they had some control with their arms so they could aim themselves to where they wanted to land.Does the flying squirrel really fly?
It glidesDoes the flying squirrel really fly?
No, actually they have skin that they extend like a flap and then they glide on the air current. They can travel quite a ways when you think about the distance from tree to tree.
No. They glide.
With webbed feet they glide.
I Hate Squirrels They're Just Bushy Tail Rats
No,they appear to be flying. They jump off tall trees and glide to control and slow down their speed.
Nope - they glide. Flying squirrels basically have a large flap of skin between each front and hind leg - this extra skin almost acts like a ';wing'; for the squirrel to jump and glide between treets. I repeat, they do not fly!
they just glide, truly flying would require self propulsion, so if a flying squirrel could lift its own self up off the ground, it would be able to fly, but a flying squirrel can only jump from a tree and use its thin membrane between its front and back legs to glide over short distances.
it appears to be flying but it's only falling with style. like Buzz Lightgear.
brian case flys!
No, just glide.
When you see one watch it for 1 hour and you will know
You know those planes that don't have engines? One plane will tow them up to a certain altitude and then the toe-line is disconnected. What are those planes called? Gliders? Yea. Same thing with the flying squirrel.
no, they just stretch out the loose skin on their sides and glide
It glides. It has skin flaps, like webbing, in it's armpits so it catches air
No, they just glide when they jump. They have kite like wings that make them, just glide. From tree to tree.
No, I currently am in the Wildlife Federation Of the South, and I have a flying squirrel. A flying squirrel does not fly. It simply glides from the top of a tree branch and lands on another.
It glides.
Yes they sail from tree to tree searching for food
No. It uses it's flaps of skin to glide from tree to tree.
