Is there such a thing as a flying squirrel?

My cousin is sending me pics of this 'flying squirrel' but is he making it up? He's known to tease. Is there such a thing as a flying squirrel?
yes there really are flying squirrels however they don't really fly. they have an excess of skin between their front and hind legs and when they stretch them out it serves as a sort of glider. they jump from tree to tree by gliding through the airIs there such a thing as a flying squirrel?
Yes, found in dense tropical forests.
Yes there is, my one cat (passed) used to bring them home all the time. They're very beautiful animals. They're smaller then the typical gray squirrel and reddish in color with loose skin that when jumping, gives them the appearance of them ';flying';. It's been a number of years since I've seen one up close though. I was usually the one having to bury them. All my present cats have no interest in them at all or by now, I'd have seen one dead or injured. My cats are weird, they bring home frogs, grasshoppers and the likeness on rare occassions a blue jay. Never anything furry, maybe it's where these cats have grown up with hamster, mice, rats, gerbils and rabbits.

They are found in the mountains of West Virginia and other places. There are 5 species found around the world, but only 2 in North America.

Glaucomys (American flying squirrels), 2 species, the Northern flying squirrel and the Southern flying squirrel, North America. The Southern flying squirrel is what we have where I live.

Here's some information on the Southern flying squirrel:

Both in the wild and in captivity they can produce two litters each year (with 2-7 young per litter), in early spring and mid-summer. The gestation period is approximately 40 days. Young are born without fur or any capabilities of its own. Their ears open at 2 to 6 days old, and fur grows in by 7 days. Their eyes don't open until they are 24-30 days old. Parents leave their young 65 days after they are born. The young then become fully independent at 120 days of age.
OH yeah. I use to have one years ago. If you live anywhere near woods, theres a good chance you've glimbsed one and didn'y know it, they live in the woods.
Yep. (http://www.eco-action.org/defend/gifs/sq鈥?/a>
yes there is a flying squirrel. I have seen it on tv and it is very graceful
There is a species of squirell that is called the flying squirrel because it has flabs of skin between it's front and hind legs. It glides, though and does not fly or flap it's arms.
yes, but they don't fly, they have skin flaps on their side that allow them to glide, and it looks as thought they are flying. they can only glide a few feet, like 10, they can't glide like around the world or anything lol
no they are real
yes you can get them for about 150$ they are called sugar gliders and are amazing, they require a lot of attention but if u can get one do it
