In the US, is it legal to have a flying squirrel as a pet?

I love these little guys. I've always wanted one, and I was wondering if it was even legal. Something tells me it is, i read an article but that was 5 yrs ago, but im not sure.In the US, is it legal to have a flying squirrel as a pet?
they are legal in some states, but not in others. you have to check with your local wildlife agency regarding laws.

sugar gliders are actually not that similar to flying squirrels, but you should do your own research regarding that to decide what fits your lifestyle best.

they are very cute, but they can also be aggressive, and they are quite demanding. good luck!In the US, is it legal to have a flying squirrel as a pet?
It is LEGAL to own them. My sister, whom breeds exotic/hard to find animals, ex: Mini Horses, Chinchillas (of multiple 'breeds') AND Flying Squirrels; as well as other animals.

She hand fed and handled them regularly to make sure they were 'used' to humans. Including the babies that were bore by them.

They, like ALL other animals, if are mistreated by someone, will show it. She always gave/gives her babies the up most TLC to be carried on through their lives by their new owner(s).
It's legal to own them. My cousins saved some one year that had been abandoned at their police station (have NO idea why they chose the police station?) and raised them till the days they left this world.
Yes its a wild animal, and they are an endangered animal, and yes they are very cute! But they can be very mean too!
try sugar gliders, they are about the same :D
