At our cottage in Haliburton, Ontario Canada we have a Northern Flying Squirrel living in our garage...?

which is attached to the cottage (there is a breezeway between the garage and the cottage). He/she has either made a nest in the garage roof or in the attic of the cottage. I've read on other websites that in the winter they sometimes make nests in houses, I'm thinking that's what happened and it has liked it so much it decided to stay. Somehow, it has made its way into our living space. The cat has been hunting it, but fortunately hasn't caught it. We had an encounter with it twice (once it ran between my legs as I was walking in the hall). At one point, we tried trapping it under a small empty garbage can so we could take it to another more appropriate location (we don't want to kill it, just re-locate it). Does anyone know if there is anything (like cayenne pepper) that will deter this little squirrel from living in our cottage? I'm also concerned it may have a disease as there were small chunks of fur missing from its back. Please help us!At our cottage in Haliburton, Ontario Canada we have a Northern Flying Squirrel living in our garage...?
We had a colony of flying squirrels in an old house we moved into. We trapped them this way;

Get an old bird cage that has the kind of door that slides up and down. Put a string down thru the top of the cage to the door. Put some peanut butter on the string about half way from the top of the string; The squirrel comes in, eats the peanut butter, causing the door to slide down and he is caught. Remembe flying squirrels are night people so you have to set this for him at night.At our cottage in Haliburton, Ontario Canada we have a Northern Flying Squirrel living in our garage...?
to a park and let it loose

Later on we trapped two more and my kids wanted to keep them and we did and they had babies (the size of peanuts when they were born) We had them almost 10 years and they made very good pets. Had to get a very large cage for them though.
